Production Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Production Manager (PM) is the central liaison between directors, designers, cast, crew, and RCT administration. This part-time position follows a seasonal rhythm, with busy production periods (evenings and weekends during rehearsals and performances) and quieter intervals between shows. The PM ensures that each production runs efficiently from auditions through strike, supporting both the artistic process and technical execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Oversight – Coordinate all aspects of RCT productions from pre-production through closing night and strike; facilitating communication, logistics, and support across artistic and technical teams to ensure smooth, efficient operations.
Point of Contact – Serve as the primary communication hub for directors, stage managers, designers, board members and volunteers during shows and between productions.
Auditions & Callbacks – Organize and facilitate auditions, callbacks, casting communications, and collect/manage related paperwork.
Scheduling – Develop and maintain production calendars, rehearsal calendars, and tech deadlines.
Technical Support – Staff and oversee technical positions for each show; maintain a basic knowledge of operating lighting and sound systems should there be an outage or emergency.
Crew Coordination – Drive and own the scheduling of crew and volunteers for each production. (including box office, concessions, and strike)
Safety & Compliance – Ensure safe working practices for cast, crew, and volunteers within the theatre.
Community & Culture – Foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment for artists and staff.

SCHEDULE AND WORKLOAD
This role is part-time and cyclical, with heavier workloads during active production periods (rehearsals, tech week, performances) and extended breaks between shows. High workload weeks like our tech week can sometimes require as many as 35 hours. As a point of reference, a typical year includes 5 tech weeks. The role also blends remote, asynchronous administrative and communications work with on site support and physical presence during productions. The position is ideal for someone who is self-driven, proactive, and thrives in a flexible, project-based environment.
Physical demands: must be able to support technical departments such as set build and lighting by climbing ladders, load-in and out, and carrying and lifting at least 50 lbs.
